Girls Night Out 2020
The GIRLS NIGHT OUT Event in Gig Harbor, presented by the Gig Harbor Downtown Waterfront Alliance, has been a highlight for me, my family and my friends for the last ten years! It has been the one event that I plan ahead every year for a fun filled day in November. It is a day-long outing that has included shopping, eating, and partying with ladies in Gig Harbor as our Red Bags are filled with gifts and goodies discovered throughout the day. I gather with my friends, we deck out in holiday wear and lights, we follow a map to all the participating stores, we partake in all the GNO activities available, and we shop with happy hearts. It is a perfect day to ring in the holidays!
Not surprisingly, this year will be different due to Covid-19.
Girls Night Out
has been officially cancelled for the 2020 season.
But Girls Night Out will be back in 2021 – with bells on!.
So…What is happening this year?
Because I am a fan of ‘thinking outside the box’ I can either do nothing, or I can make some plans of my own during this 2020 holiday season. My plan will include some seasonal shopping in Gig Harbor while anticipating a fun day doing it!
In order to have a great Girls Night Out next year, in 2021, the Gig Harbor Waterfront stores and restaurants that we all know and love need to be in business NOW so that we can have a fabulous time in November of 2021! Girls Night Out has been a huge economic boost to all the merchants on the waterfront as well as the Waterfront Alliance. I am truly thankful for all they do for the Gig Harbor Community!
What am I going to do this year?
So, what can I do or what can WE do to make a difference this holiday season in our beautiful downtown? If you love our downtown like it is, we need to help it stay that way! We can do our shopping with purpose! We can shop local. We can do our holiday shopping downtown. We can also enjoy eating out at the many great restaurants and coffee shops. What I love about Gig Harbor is that these businesses show off the ‘personality’ of the harbor community. We need them and they need us!
In place of a cancelled GNO this year, my plan is to choose a day where I will have my own Girls Night Out (or day out) and shop many stores on the waterfront. I will be shopping for Christmas gifts for family and friends. It lifts my spirits to see and visit with our awesome store owners. We need each other and we need ‘connection’ to feel like things are ‘normal’. This is also a great time to buy gift cards to give or to save to use for later. Every store and restaurant have followed all the necessary protocols to provide a safe environment to do our holiday shopping. If you do not feel comfortable shopping in person, it is easy to shop online or order carry-out.
I am excited to report that the Alliance has been working diligently planning something new and different for this VERY different year. You can join in the fun of “Passport to the Holidays” between November 9 and December 6. What’s that you say”? A passport? Over thirty businesses are participating in this fun promotion and they are all contributing to fantastic gift baskets that you could win! Starting on November 9, pick up a passport at any participating business (look for the posters in the windows with a list), spend a minimum of $25 at five different stores, get your passport stamped and turn it in to be put into the drawing for one of four fabulous gift baskets. You can complete as many passports as your shopping takes!
While downtown you can enjoy beautiful holiday decorations, grab some cocoa or a beverage of your choice, to keep you warm, enjoy a delectable meal, and shop and support our wonderful downtown waterfront businesses.
Please join me in committing to SHOP LOCAL for CHRISTMAS 2020!
The Alliance has been showcasing individual stores, restaurants, coffee shops, and gift shops with what they have to offer during this unique time. Do not let this ‘pandemic’ stop you from making your holiday season as special as you want to make it. This is the perfect time to include the Gig Harbor Downtown Waterfront stores and restaurants in your holiday season!
